Cows & Bulls

Cows & Bulls is an interesting and entertaining code breaking or number finding game. It is one of the alternate versions of the Mastermind game. This is a game which tests your logical reasoning and your presence of mind. Not to mention, it is So much Fun. It is usually played between two players. This online version is designed to be played by a single player. The aim of the game is to find the secret (4 digit) number chosen by the computer, in as few guesses as possible.

As you start guessing the digits one by one, the computer throws the number of bulls and cows for each numer until you hit 4 bulls (i.e all digits in right position), or you run out of attempts allowed. All the Best and have fun !!!

Rules of game are pretty simple. Please go through the instrunction page for full details regarding how to play the game.

• 1) You can only guess four digit numbers.
• 2) The digits cannot repeat.
• 3) You cannot take back a turn.
• 4) The number cannot start with 0, but can have 0 in other positions.

The computer holds a 4 digit number (let's call it the 'target number') and you start guessing 4 digit numbers one by one towards the aim of finding the target number. When you guess a number, the computer responds back with the number of Cows and Bulls in the number you guessed. Any digit in your guessed number which is also present in the targer number is a Cow or a Bull.

If the digit is in the same position as in the target number, then it is called a Bull and if it is not in the same position in the target number, it is called a Cow.

Examples

• 1) If the target number is '8049' and you entered '1465' then the number of cows in this case is 1. Since 4 and 4 match but not in position. Number of bulls is 0. Since no exact match is present.
• 2) If the target number is '8049' and you entered '1645' then the number of cows in this case is 0. Number of Bulls is 1. Since 4 and 4 match in digit and position.
• 3) If the target number is '8049' and you entered '1648' then the number of cows in this case is 1. Number of Bulls is 1.
